Model Magic is awesome. For so many reasons. It feels absolutely wonderful in your hands, pretty marshmallow dreamy in my opinion. It stays supple for a pretty long time depending on how well you pack it a plastic bag, you can paint it too. Very user-friendly clay option, especially if your room does not support a regular clay program (like mine).
I wanted to teach my students how to make pinch pots. Then I also decided we had so much model magic, we could make a pendant, a pinch pot, and a lid. A perfect gift for mom. My lesson did coincide with Valentine’s Day, so that was a bonus. On day one I taught students how to make hearts using a palette knife. They felt so adult. This was very tricky for some to do so I helped them by punching little holes into the clay for a guide. Then they used a pencil to make a hole in the heart for their string to go through. We proceeded to make the pinch pot and the lid the following day. Once everything dried we painted everything. The highlight – gold and silver paint on top of other colors. Just to give everything a little bit of sparkle.
I love the heart shaped pot and lid. These gifts are so sweet.
Students made gift bags and I packed them nicely for presentation. The first grade team had all mothers come in for a celebration of sorts and moms got letters and this present for Valentines Day. Love.
