This is a quick activity that allows you to learn so much about your students, your community, and create something beautiful for the first days of school. I did this activity as part of our Den Days. Our school has a house system (Harry Potter) but we use our house mascot to divide up the houses, which are called Dens. We played the video from Cassie Stephens first. I did jump to the middle, to the point where Cassie begins the lesson, simply because of the amount of time allotted for the rotations:
Then we handed each table a stack of 4 x 4 inch cards. The classroom was already divided into their den colors so it was easier for kids to stick to their color schemes.
Once all the portraits were completed, we simply rolled out some butcher paper and arranged to our liking. We had a bunch of fabric squares from one of our teachers who loves to quilt. We put those around the border and then they were ready to hang.
This is now at the entrance of our school and really showcases our students and our community as a whole.
